* Flash Flood Watch for portions of central Georgia... east
central Georgia... north central Georgia... northeast Georgia...

* From this evening through Wednesday afternoon

* abundant moisture combined with an upper level storm system will
lead to widespread showers and thunderstorms later today but
particularly overnight into early Tuesday and again late Tuesday
into early Wednesday. Heavy rain will be possible at times over
the watch area including higher rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches
per hour. Portions of the watch area received 1 to 3 inches of
rainfall on Saturday into early Sunday making soils less
permeable to additional rainfall. Additional rainfall amounts of
2 to 4 inches are possible in the watch area through noon
Wednesday.

* Flooding in low lying and flood prone areas will be likely,
especially in urban areas. In addition, creeks, streams and
rivers may overflow their banks.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

Clayton... southern DeKalb and northwestern Henry counties until 1130
am EDT...

At 1104 am EDT... a strong thunderstorm was over Ellenwood, or 8 miles
northeast of Jonesboro... moving east at 20 mph.

Hazard... frequent cloud to ground lightning and heavy rain.

Impact... lightning is one of nature's leading killers. If you can
           hear thunder... you are close enough to be struck by
           lightning. Heavy rain may cause temporary street flooding
           especially in poor drainage areas.

Some locations in the path of this storm include
Conyers, Stockbridge, Forest Park, Morrow, Lake city, Lithonia,
Lakeview Estates, Candler-McAfee, Belvedere Park, Rex, Magnet,
Milstead, Belmont, Richardson Park, Ellenwood, Arabia Mountain,
Redan, Hidden Valley Park, fort gillem and Panola Mountain State
Park.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

People outdoors should seek shelter immediately. Electrical
appliances should not be used unless in an emergency. Motorists
should slow down and be prepared for possible loss of control due to
hydroplaning.
