* Flash Flood Warning for...
southwestern Laurel County in south central Kentucky...

* until 1130 PM EDT

* at 836 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two inches of rain have
already fallen. Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
London, Holly Bay rec. Area, Fariston, billows, Levi Jackson S.P.,
Lily, Dorthae, North Corbin, Rockcastle Springs, bunch, Sublimity
City, Hightop, Keavy, London-Corbin Airport, Vox, Baldrock and
Corbin.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, country roads, farmland, and other low lying
spots.

* until 1030 PM EDT

* at 735 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding in
the advisory area. Up to one inch of rain has already fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
London, Barbourville, Artemus, Fariston, Swan Lake, Levi Jackson
S.P., Moore Hill, barnyard, Mount Victory, North Corbin, Jarvis,
Cranes Nest, Hightop, Girdler, Avis, gray, DeWitt, Holly Bay rec.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of east central Kentucky, northeast Kentucky, south
central Kentucky, and southeast Kentucky, including the
following areas, in east central Kentucky, Bath, Elliott,
Estill, Menifee, Montgomery, Powell, and Rowan. In northeast
Kentucky, Johnson and Martin. In south central Kentucky,
Laurel, McCreary, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Wayne, and Whitley. In
southeast Kentucky, Bell, Breathitt, Clay, Floyd, Harlan,
Jackson, Knott, Knox, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Morgan,
Owsley, Perry, Pike, and Wolfe.

* Through late Sunday night

* locally heavy rainfall will be possible as storms track along a
stalled out frontal boundary near eastern Kentucky this
afternoon into this evening. Additional rounds of heavy rainfall
are possible through late Sunday night.

* Heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding of low lying areas.
Additionally, fast rises on area creeks, streams, and some
rivers are possible. Those camping near the water this weekend
need to be prepared to seek higher ground if a Flash Flood
Warning is issued.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

Knox... northeastern McCreary... eastern Pulaski... northern Whitley and
southeastern Rockcastle counties...

At 849 PM EDT, strong thunderstorms were clustered near Sloans
Valley, or 8 miles southeast of Somerset, moving east at 35 mph.

Winds in excess of 40 mph and pea size hail are possible with this
storm.

Locations impacted include...
Somerset, London, Science Hill, Burnside, Sloans Valley, Fariston,
Pittsburg, Cumberland Falls S.P., Levi Jackson S.P., Moore Hill,
clate, Bronston, Mount Victory, Goldbug, Dabney, North Corbin, krupp,
Mershons, Hightop and Hazel Patch.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may cause
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
