The Flash Flood Watch continues for

central Kentucky and southeast Kentucky... including the
following counties... in east central Kentucky... Bath... Elliott...
Estill... Fleming... Menifee... Montgomery... Powell and Rowan. In
northeast Kentucky... Johnson and Martin. In south central
Kentucky... Laurel... McCreary... Pulaski... Rockcastle... Wayne and
Whitley. In southeast Kentucky... Bell... Breathitt... Clay...
Floyd... Harlan... Jackson... Knott... Knox... Lee... Leslie...
Letcher... Magoffin... Morgan... Owsley... Perry... Pike and Wolfe.

* Through Friday morning

* repeated rounds of thunderstorms with torrential downpours are
expected as a very moist airmass will be in place across the
area. This will bring a threat for heavy rainfall... which could
result in flash flooding along creeks and small streams... and in
poor drainage areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.

Letcher... Bell... Leslie... Harlan... and Clay counties through
1230 am EDT on Thursday...

At 1141 PM EDT... a line of strong thunderstorms was along a line
extending from plank to Skidmore to near field to Saylor to Bledsoe
to Harlan to near Smith... and moving northeast at 30 mph.

Torrential rainfall... frequent lightning... winds in excess of 40
mph and pea size hail are possible with these storms.

Locations impacted include...
hazard... Harlan... Hyden... Letcher... Cumberland... Loyall... Evarts...
Lynch... Benham... Wallins Creek... Blackey... Daley... Diablock...
sunshine... Smith... Partridge... Gander... Stony Fork Junction...
Wendover and Maggard.

This includes the following highways...
hal Rogers Parkway near mile marker 29... and between mile markers 33
and 59.
Kentucky Highway 80 in Perry County near mile marker 9.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms... which will
cause ponding of water on roadways. Localized flooding is also
possible. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms.
Lightning can strike miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
