The National Weather Service in Jackson KY has extended the

* Flood Warning for...
rain and snowmelt in...
Lee County in southeastern Kentucky...
Powell County in east central Kentucky...
Wolfe County in southeastern Kentucky...
Estill County in east central Kentucky...

* until 400 PM EST Friday

* at 143 am EST... the South Fork... North Fork... and main Stem of the
Kentucky River... and the Red River is still in flood. Backwater
from this is flooding low lying areas and tributary creeks and
streams and has led to Road closures on many roads near these
rivers. Except for the Kentucky River in Estill County... where the
river will not rest until Friday... the rivers have crested or are
nearing crest... and the water will begin recede out of the
affected areas. However... backwater flooding should continue into
the weekend in Estill County.

* Some locations that may experience flooding include...
Stanton... Irvine... Beattyville... Campton... Clay City... Ravenna...
Vaughns Mill... Lane... Willow Shoals... Cressmont... Vada... Pitts...
St. Helens... Zachariah... Koomer Ridge campground... Rice Station...
Wagersville... Fitchburg... Rogers and Airedale.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
However... all interested parties should take necessary precautions
immediately.

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

southwestern Knott County in southeastern Kentucky...
southern Lee County in southeastern Kentucky...
northeastern Floyd County in southeastern Kentucky...
Breathitt County in southeastern Kentucky...
northwestern Harlan County in southeastern Kentucky...
Leslie County in southeastern Kentucky...
Owsley County in southeastern Kentucky...
Martin County in northeastern Kentucky...
southeastern Morgan County in southeastern Kentucky...
Magoffin County in southeastern Kentucky...

* at 134 am EST... portions of the South Fork... North Fork... and
Middle Fork of the Kentucky River... the Licking River... and the
levisa and tug Forks of the Big Sandy rivers are still in flood.
Backwater from this is flooding low lying areas and tributary

The Flood Warning continues for
the Kentucky River at Heidelberg.
* At 4:45 PM Thursday the stage was 23.3 feet.
* Flood stage is 20.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river is nearing crest around 23.3 feet and will
remain near this level through the evening. The river will fall
below flood stage early Saturday afternoon.

Slick roads will continue through tonight and into early Friday
morning due to the recent snowfall... in addition to this there
have been reports of patchy ground fog. Combine this with
subfreezing temperatures expected tonight... any melted snow will
likely refreeze on roads... adding to the danger. The subfreezing
temperatures will also be harmful to people and animals who are
outside.
