Areal Flood Warning

Statement as of 1:00 AM EDT on April 16, 2014

Expires 2:00 AM EDT on April 17, 2014

... The Flood Warning remains in effect until 300 PM EDT Wednesday for
urban areas and small streams in Aroostook County...

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
All interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.

At 1258 am EDT... the Aroostook River from Washburn down through Fort
Fairfield was running high with ice moving and jamming. The most
noted areas include Washburn as the gage at Washburn has been
fluctuating from 12 to 15.5 feet due to ice moving and jamming. The
other jam was at The Fort Fairfield bridge on Route 1a. Water was
slowly rising behind this jam.

Many roads in the County have been impacted by the rainfall and
snowmelt. Some of these roads include:

In fort fairfield:

Dorsey Road Strickland Road Grimes Road currier Road
Forest Avenue Riverside Avenue Page Road

In addition... Route 1a across the Aroostook River remains closed to
traffic.

In caribou:

Roosevelt Road impacted by high water with Culver damage
Grimes Road partially closed heading out of Caribou
River Road partially closed
short Road has Culver damage

In limestone:

Ward Road
Grand Falls Road
long Road

At washburn:

Portions of Main Street
garage street
portions rt 164 east of Crouseville

In mapleton:

In presque isle:

burlock Road closed.

In easton:

In Van buren:

Portions of Route 1a near Hamlin has water flowing across it.

Areas outside the Aroostook and Saint John river basin include:

Bancroft Road near Wytopitlock.

Route 2 near Houlton between Porter settlement Road and Mooers Road

precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road.

When encountering flooded roads make the smart choice... turn
around... dont drown!
