The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
Pontotoc County in northeastern Mississippi...
Lee County in northeastern Mississippi...
southern Union County in northeastern Mississippi...

* until 645 am CDT

* at 341 am CDT... Doppler radar estimates 1 to 3 inches of rain has
occurred over the past 2 hours. Showers and thunderstorms will
produce an additonal 2 to 4 inches of rain over the next 3 hours.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Tupelo... Pontotoc... Verona... trace State Park... Tombigbee State
Park... Saltillo... Plantersville... Ecru... Troy... Furrs... Pinedale...
Randolph... New Harmony... Sherman... Thaxton... Algoma... Toccopola...
Blue Springs... Beech Springs and Eggville.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Turn around... dont drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

The Flood Warning continues for
the little Tallahatchie canal at little Tallahatchie river at Etta
near New Albany
* until Sunday July 5.
* At 8 PM Friday the stage was 25.8 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Maximum forecast stage of 27.5 feet Saturday July 4.
* Flood stage is 25.0 feet.
* The river rose above flood stage Friday July 3 and will continue
rising to near 27.5 feet by Saturday July 4. The river will fall
below flood stage Sunday July 5.
* At 26.0 feet... County Highway 47 near Mud Creek and Mill Creek has
6 to 12 inches of water over it. Several thousand acres of crop
land are flooded.
