... Flood Watch now in effect through Tuesday morning...

The Flood Watch is now in effect for

* Gaston and Lincoln in the Piedmont of western North Carolina,
and York County in upstate South Carolina.

* Through Tuesday morning

* additional bands of moderate rain showers will likely move west
across the Carolina Piedmont through the early morning hours.
Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches could impact saturated
areas where upwards of 2 to 4 inches have already fallen. Rivers
and streams in this area are already running at elevated levels,
and additional flooding could develop near swollen streams.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

* urban and small stream flood advisory for rapid rises for...
northwestern Cabarrus County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...
southeastern Catawba County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...
south central Iredell County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...
eastern Lincoln County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...
Mecklenburg County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...
southeastern Cleveland County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...
Gaston County in the Piedmont of North Carolina...
northeastern York County in upstate South Carolina...

* until 915 PM EDT

* at 711 PM EDT, Doppler radar continued to show pockets of heavy
rain redeveloping across the area. About 3 to 4 inches of rain has
already fallen, with another 1.5 inches possible into the evening
hours. This additional heavy rain which will cause urban and small
stream flooding concerns in the advisory area.

* Some locations that most prone include... Gastonia, Uptown
Charlotte, Huntersville, Lincolnton, central Charlotte, south
Charlotte, southwest Charlotte, East Charlotte, northwest
Charlotte and Matthews.

* Remain alert for rapid rises in creeks and streams, along with
flooding at low water crossings.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Heavy rainfall will cause ponding of water in urban areas, streets
and underpasses, as well as other poor drainage areas and low lying
spots. Rapid rises on small creeks and streams will also occur,
possibly flooding low water crossings and farmland. Do not attempt to
travel across flooded roads. Turn around, dont drown.

Please report flood water flowing over roads or threatening property,
or landslides to the National Weather Service by calling toll free,
1, 800, 2 6 7, 8 1 0 1, or by posting on our facebook Page, or tweet
it using hashtag nwsgsp. Your message should describe the event and
the specific location where it occurred.
