The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
southwestern Sandoval County in north central New Mexico...
northeastern Cibola County in west central New Mexico...
southeastern McKinley County in west central New Mexico...

* until 545 PM MDT

* at 139 PM MDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated a
thunderstorms producing heavy rain over the northeast portion of
the San Mateo Mountains... including the vicinity of Laguna Grande.
Nearly 3 inches of rain has already fallen. Flash flooding is
likely in Canon de Pedro Padilla. These flood waters will reach
Arroyo Conchas after 230 PM and travel through the Laguna
reservation to the Rio San Jose. Flash flooding is also likely in
Canon tapia and Hay Meadow Canyon from their headwaters to the Rio
Puerco.

* Locations impacted include...
Marquez... Cebolletita... Paguate and Mesita.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Move to higher ground now. Act quickly to protect your life.

Both localized and distant heavy rainfall will create sudden and
dangerous flows in arroyos and over low water crossings.

Do not Camp along streams and rivers. Remain alert when hiking in
steep... narrow canyons. Know where you are relative to low spots and
drainages.

* Arroyo and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
east central Catron County in west central New Mexico...
western Socorro County in central New Mexico...

* until 400 PM MDT

* at 156 PM MDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
heavy rain due to numerous thunderstorms over the San Mateo
Mountains of southwest Socorro County... as well as the Magdalena
Mountains... Bear Mountains and the Datil area. Rain rates are
expected to reach over 1 inch per hour in stronger cells.

* Locations impacted include...
Socorro... Datil... Magdalena... San Acacia... Escondida... Lemitar...
National radio astronomy observatory... Bosque del Apache Refuge...
Chamizal and Luis Lopez.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Both localized and distant heavy rainfall will create dangerous
flows in arroyos and over low water crossings. Do not attempt to
drive through these waters. Water in arroyos may travel many miles
and take hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely.

* Arroyo and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
southeastern Cibola County in west central New Mexico...
northwestern Socorro County in central New Mexico...

* until 245 PM MDT

* at 1246 PM MDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
heavy rain due to strong thunderstorms near Alamo... and about 20
miles southwest of Acoma Pueblo. Rainfall rates between 1 and 2
inches per hour can be expected. The storms will move toward the
northeast at 10 to 15 mph. In addition to heavy rainfall... hail up
to pea size may accompany the storms along with wind gusts to 40
mph.

* Locations impacted include...
Acoma Pueblo and Alamo.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Both localized and distant heavy rainfall will create dangerous flows
in arroyos and over low water crossings.
Do not attempt to drive through these waters. Water in arroyos may
travel many miles and take hours to reach
your location from upstream rain areas.

Highlands... northern Sangre de Cristos above 9500 feet/Red
River... northwest Highlands... northwest plateau... Raton
ridge/Johnson Mesa... San Francisco River Valley... San Juan
Mountains... Sandia/Manzano Mountains... Santa Fe Metro area...
southern Sangre de Cristos above 9500 feet... Southwest
Mountains... upper Rio Grande Valley... west Central Highlands...
west central mountains... west Central Plateau and west slopes

* Until midnight MDT tonight

* a very moist airmass remains in place over much of New Mexico...
and this will once again support scattered to numerous showers
and thunderstorms... primarily over central to northwestern New
Mexico. Periods of heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding with
rainfall rates commonly approaching 1 to 3 inches per hour.

* Locales that will be most susceptible to flash flooding include
those around steep terrain... urban drainages... and areas that
have recently experienced heavy rainfall over the past few days.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to
flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash
flood warnings be issued.
