The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
west central Harding County in northeast New Mexico
north central San Miguel County in northeast New Mexico
southeastern Mora County in northeast New Mexico

* until 145 am MDT

* at 948 PM MDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
torrential rain from a stationary cluster of thunderstorms
centered 13 miles east of maes... or about 24 miles west of
Mosquero. Locations likely to experience flash flooding include
the vicinity of Roy... Solano... Mosquero... maes and the Canadian
river downstream from The Mills canyon Camp Ground to Conchas
Lake. Widespread rain amounts from 1 to 3 inches have already
fallen... and another 1 to 3 inches will be possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Do not drive into areas where water covers the roadway. Many flash
flood deaths occur in automobiles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flash floods.

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued an

* Arroyo and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
northwestern Harding County in northeast New Mexico
southeastern Mora County in northeast New Mexico
north central San Miguel County in northeast New Mexico

* until midnight MDT

* at 907 PM MDT National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
torrential rain from numerous thunderstorms continuously
regenerating over the same areas. One to 2 inches of rain has
already fallen in many areas.

* Strong flows and high water levels are expected in arroyos... small
streams and over low water crossings... including the Canadian
river downstream to Conchas Lake State Park. Expect hazardous
ponding on roads.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Remember... ditches are deadly. A gentle flow of water can become a
raging torrent in a matter of minutes.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to tell how much
water is on the Road... do not drive through fast moving water of
unknown depth.

* Arroyo and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
northeastern Santa Fe County in north central New Mexico
west central Mora County in northeast New Mexico
northwestern San Miguel County in northeast New Mexico

* until 1030 PM MDT

* at 856 PM MDT National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
heavy rain from numerous thunderstorms crossing the southern
Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

* Strong flows and high water levels are expected in arroyos... small
streams and over low water crossings. Rapid runoff can also be
expected immediately over and downstream from wildfire burn
scars... including the Tres Lagunas burn scar and the Jaroso
burn scar.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to tell how much
water is on the Road... do not drive through fast moving water of
unknown depth.

Both localized and distant heavy rainfall will create dangerous flows
in arroyos and over low water crossings. Do not attempt to drive
through these waters. Water in arroyos may travel many miles and take
hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* a portion of north and central New Mexico... including the
following areas... east slopes Sangre de Cristo Mountains...
eastern San Miguel County... far northeast Highlands... Guadalupe
County... Harding County... northeast Highlands... Quay County...
Raton ridge/Johnson Mesa and Union County.

* Through this evening

* widespread and slow-moving thunderstorms developing along and
near a cold front slowly moving southward from southeast Colorado
will create a high threat of flash flooding across the northeast
quarter of New Mexico.

* Steep terrain will be especially susceptible to flash flooding.
Those in and around steeper terrain or near arroyos or small
streams and creeks should monitor the latest forecasts closely
and be prepared to take immediate action if a warning or advisory
is issued.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to
flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
Monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should flash
flood warnings be issued.
