... Next week is severe weather awareness week in New York...

Governor Andrew cuomo has declared next week, April 30th
through may 6th, severe weather awareness week in New York.
Noaa's National Weather Service (nws) joins governor cuomo in
partnership with the agencies of the New York state disaster
preparedness commission, local agencies, volunteer agencies
and private sector organizations in urging all residents to
learn how to protect themselves from The Hazards of flooding,
tornadoes, and severe thunderstorms.

Severe weather awareness week is a time to learn more about
thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning and flooding and prepare
for the dangers they bring to New York state during the Spring
and Summer seasons.

National Weather Service offices in the state of New York
will conduct a severe weather drill on Thursday may 4th
at 115 PM.

These drills are meant to provide emergency management
agencies, schools, hospitals, nursing facilities, the media and
the public an opportunity to test communications systems,
practice and update safety procedures. This is the best time to
review severe weather terminology.

Each day of severe weather awareness week will focus on a
different topic. This will have a primary emphasis on weather
safety and preparedness. Below are the topics that will be covered.

Monday may 1... severe weather terms and definitions.

Tuesday may 2... severe thunderstorms.

Wednesday may 3... severe weather preparedness and safety.

Thursday may 4... tornadoes.

Friday may 5... flooding.

Saturday may 6... weather ready nation.

Plan ahead for hazards that thunderstorms create. Help US make
severe weather awareness week a Success by being prepared.
Be a force of nature.
