... Record daily maximum rainfall set at Houston intercontinental
yesterday...

A record rainfall of 2.26 inches was set at Houston intercontinental
yesterday. This breaks the old record of 1.52 set in 1948. June 2015
was the eighth wettest June in city history. It was also the third
wettest may-June in city history with 25.56 inches of rain. This
amount only trails 25.66 inches in 2004 and 29.84 inches in 1989.

... June 2015 continues recent trend of above normal rainfall...

The month started out dry but moisture levels began to increase
during the second week of the month. Tropical Storm Bill made
landfall on Tuesday June 16th but the effects from the storm
started days earlier with periods of heavy rain beginning on the
13th. Parts of Galveston County received between 4 and 6 inches of
rain on the 13th. Rainfall varied across southeast Texas during
the month with most locations receiving heavy to excessive
rainfall. Tropical Storm Bill brought heavy rain to Jackson...
Wharton... Matagorda... Austin... Waller and Washington counties on
its trek to the north. Parts of Jackson and Wharton counties received
between 10 and 14 inches of rain. 13.78 inches of rain was reported just
west of Ganado on June 16th and 17th. The heavy rain produced a rapid
rise on area rivers and significant flooding closed parts of US Highway
59 between Wharton and Edna. The greatest monthly rainfall (first order
and co-op sites) total reported in the area was 12.46 inches in Baytown
with El Campo coming in a close second with 12.41 inches. The driest
location in the area was Galveston with only 2.75 inches of rain followed
closely by Houston Westbury with 2.92 inches of rain... quite a contrast
from may when this location measured 18.69 inches of rain.

Some miscellaneous rainfall tidbits to wow your friends at your
next get together include:

Baytown has endured four consecutive months with rainfall at or
exceeding 10 inches.

The current 2015 rainfall total for Baytown is 60.72 inches which
exceeds the 1981-2010 30 year normal. The 30 year average rainfall
for Baytown is 59.92 inches. Other communities that have exceeded
their normal annual rainfall include Brenham... Washington State
Park and Caldwell. Bellville has recorded 40.67 inches of rain in
2015 and this is just shy of their 30 year normal annual rainfall.

The city of Houston has recorded two consecutive months with
rainfall exceeding ten inches. The 2015 rainfall total is now
41.83 which is 17.51 inches above normal. This is the third
wettest start to a year in city history. Only 2004 (45.02) and
1993 (43.33) were wetter than this year.

The may/June rainfall total was 25.56 inches and this is the
third wettest may/June rainfall total in city history. Only 1981
(29.84) and 2004 (25.66) were wetter.

Temperatures were close to normal during June. The temperature did
not reach 95 degrees at Bush iah or at College Station. This is
the second consecutive year that the temperature did not reach or
exceed 95 degrees during the month of June. The city of Houston
extended its streak of consecutive days below 100 degrees to 665
days which is the 27th longest streak in city history.
