Flood Watch, Areal Flood Watch

The Flood Watch continues for
the Palouse river near Potlatch
* from late tonight to Wednesday evening.
* At 12:45 PM Tuesday the stage was 11.6 feet.
* Cresting as high as 15 feet.
* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Forecast... the Palouse river will likely experience a
significant rise this afternoon and this evening. The river
has the potential to get close to the flood stage of 15 feet
early Wednesday morning.

* at 15.0 feet... extensive flooding of the low lying areas between
Potlatch, ID and Palouse, WA will occur. Flooding will occur at the
lions club Community Park and Hayton Greene Park in Palouse. South
River Road will likely be flooded where it crosses the Palouse
river at Wellesley Rd. The Potlatch softball and baseball fields
will start to flood.

... Flood Watch remains in effect through Wednesday afternoon...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of north Idaho and northeast Washington, including
the following counties, in north Idaho, Benewah, Kootenai,
Latah, and Shoshone. In northeast Washington, Spokane.

* Through Wednesday afternoon

* Shoshone... Latah... and Benewah counties: this afternoon through
tonight... an additional quarter to half inch of rain will likely
fall. As much as three quarters of an inch of precipitation will
fall in the form of rain and high elevation snow in Shoshone
County.

* Spokane and Kootenai counties: this afternoon and evening... an
additional tenth to quarter of an inch of precipitation is
expected. Elevations above 2500 feet will likely receive
snow... but lower elevations especially in southern portions of
Spokane and Kootenai counties will receive rain or rain/snow
mix.

* Look for rises on creeks and small streams. Field flooding will
likely occur as well in areas that typically flood in the Spring
due to poor drainage. A cooler and showery weather pattern
Wednesday through the weekend should allow small streams to
recede over the next several days.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
