Winter Storm Watch

Statement as of 1:54 AM MST on November 21, 2014

Expires 8:00 AM EST on November 23, 2014

... Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from late tonight through
late Saturday night...

A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from late tonight through
late Saturday night.

* Summary and timing... light snow will begin to fall in the
mountains tonight... spreading into the valleys by sunrise and
becoming moderate to heavy in intensity. Snow will start to taper off
after midnight.

* Snow accumulations... 10 to 18 inches expected in the mountains
with locally higher amounts up to 22 inches. 6 to 10 inches
expected in the valleys... with up to 12 inches possible in
favored upslope locations of the valleys.

* Wind and visibility... winds will increase from the southwest
with gusts to 30 mph in the valleys and gusts to 60 mph possible
on exposed peaks through Saturday afternoon. Winds will shift to
the west Saturday evening and will be less gusty. Expect
widespread areas of reduced visibility in falling and blowing
snow... especially on the passes.

* Impacts... heavy snow... brisk wind and blowing snow may lead to very
difficult travel across the western mountains and valleys this
weekend... as well as increase the avalanche danger... please
visit www.Jhavalanche.Org before venturing out into the back
country this weekend. Cooler temperatures and strong winds will
also cause wind chills to drop to dangerous levels.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Remember... a Winter Storm Watch means conditions are favorable
for hazardous winter weather in and close to the watch area.

The latest Road conditions provided by the Wyoming Department of
Transportation are available by calling 5-1-1 or on the internet
at wyoroad.Info.

Expires 6:00 PM EST on December 20, 2014

... Significant snow expected across the western mountains
beginning Friday night and lasting through Sunday morning...

Moisture will be on the increase from the eastern Pacific starting
today... continuing through Saturday night. Light areas of snow will
begin to fall across the mountains of western Wyoming starting
later today... continuing off and on through the day Friday. The
mountains will see between one and three inches of snowfall with
this initial system... with a trace to and inch at lower elevations.
However... after midnight Friday... a much stronger and more moisture
laden system will run into the western mountains with periods of
moderate to heavy snowfall at times... lasting through Saturday
night. Heaviest snowfall is currently expected between mid day
and midnight on Saturday before tapering off to light snow showers
by Sunday morning. The mountains will likely see 8 to 12 inches of
new snowfall with this second system through Sunday morning... with
the Star and Jackson valleys receiving between 3 and 6 inches.
Additionally... as winds of 10 to 25 mph come around to the west
to southwest with this system... favored windward slopes will see
as much as 14 inches of the white stuff over the same period of
time.

All travelers and outdoor enthusiasts should be prepared
for this snow event along with the possibility of delayed
travel... particularly over the region's mountain passes. Please
check back with the National Weather Service in Riverton through the
